The problem with digg and reddit for that matter is digging, upvoting, burying, downvoting does not make clear whether you agree/disagree, or if you are voting on the basis of importance, or what parts of something you like dislike. I’m sure by digg 5 or 6 it will be resolved unless someone beats them to the punch. I’m just going to put this out there. While users should not be a source of the news, the ultimate social news site would have users grab the best parts of articles in tweet sized chunks, but collect those together across in related topics, agreeing, assigning importance, providing citation, commenting, and polling. The news should be explorable like wikipedia. This would give us a) a more engaged public and b) richer news because comment sections reward good and interesting comments with upvotes he main stream media tends to reflect a smaller spectrum of perspectives.
